Frequently Asked Questions about Investments

Q. What risk do I have to take to generate a good return on my money?
A. Before recommending a product we carry out an ‘Attitude to Risk’ analysis that is personal to you and we offer regular reviews to make sure that your investment remains suitable.

Q. Are there any guaranteed investments?
A. Yes, there are products that contain guarantees which are designed to provide peace of mind to first time investors but also appeal to the more cautious.

Q. How long do I need to tie my money up for?
A. That is also down to your own personal requirements although it is recommended that most stock market related investments should be envisaged to be kept for 3 to 5 years.

Q. How are investments taxed?
A. Different products are taxed in different ways at different times, before recommending any investments we establish your current tax situation and take into account any future possible impact on that situation.

Q. Can I have an income from my investment?
A. Yes you can, either from the outset or left until a later date if not needed straight away, this is something we will clarify with you when deciding which is investment is most suitable.

Q. How do I know how my investment is doing?
A. You will normally receive a statement 6 monthly or yearly but at Money Matters we also provide online access to a ‘real time valuation’ service if required (there is also a smart phone application for this).

Q. What is a fund supermarket?
A. This is where you invest in one place but you have access to funds from a wide range of investment managers which means that you can switch from one to another as markets change without too much hassle.

Q. Where should I invest a recently received inheritance?
A. There is no easy answer as it depends on your circumstances, it is usually best for you to contact us and arrange a no obligation appointment to discuss all the options available to you.
